Sidney Harman Hall, Harman Centre for the Arts
The Shakespeare Theatre Company
Sidney Harman Hall, the new home of the Shakespeare Theater Company, is a centrepiece in the revitalization of Washington, D.C.’s historic business district.
The 775-seat performance space occupies the first five and a half floors of an eleven-storey office tower. The three-level glass facade, distinguished by a projected bay window, not only establishes the theatre’s identity and purpose but directly links the activity within the public lobby areas to the vibrant outside environment.
The theatre itself achieves excellent acoustics, sightlines and audience comfort. For the artists using the space, the seamless marriage of advanced technology and a variety of stage configurations renders a flexible space that presents an unparalleled opportunity for theatrical creativity.
