St. Catharines Performing Arts Centre
City of St. Catharines
Location: St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada
Client: City of St. Catharines
The Performing Arts Centre will feature 110,000 square feet of space to house:
- Concert Hall: an 800-seat performance venue with adjustable acoustical characteristics capable of serving natural acoustics as well as amplified events;
- Cinema: a 180-seat theatre exhibiting high-quality independent art films for the public (functioning as a lecture theatre by day);
- Theatre Dance Venue: a performance theatre suitable for audiences of up to 150, primarily serving local arts groups;
- Recital and Rehearsal Hall: a 250-seat venue and rehearsal space primarily used for musical performances (a lab for music students);
- Ancillary / Circulation Space: support space for the centre.
On a uniquely situated site, the new St. Catharines Performing Arts Centre will be adjacent to Brock University’s 198 St. Paul Street Facility to form the new $94M performing arts complex. Sharing program space will provide a unified approach between these two distinct facilities, creating opportunities for creative intersections of dramatic, music and visual arts not just spatially but also both intellectually and physically. The new Performing Arts Centre will also feature frontage on the city’s main thoroughfare, St. Paul Street, and is a catalyst in rejuvenating downtown St. Catharines.
